EVANGELISM

Posted by H.L. Hussmann

People are the heart of God. They are what He is most passionate about and if we want to be intimate with Him, we must allow Him to change our passions to match His. When Jesus called His first disciples He said, "Follow me and I will make you fishers of men." Before He went to the cross He prayed for them that, "they might be one ... so that the world will know ...." CLICK TO READ MORE

APOLOGETICS

I ask a lot of people, "Why don't you share your faith more often than you do?" The number one response is, "fear." And, the number one fear is the "fear of looking stupid." Many Christians are so afraid of the one-in-a-thousand difficult encounter that they don't share with the other 999.... CLICK TO READ MORE

LOVING GOD PASSIONATELY

Posted by H.L. Hussmann

Love is everything. And, loving God is supposed to be our highest priority in life - higher than work, family, friendships, education - anything. But love isn't a feeling or emotion. It means sacrifice. Love has always been expressed by laying down our desires, our resources, our time, and our energy for the sake of others....CLICK TO READ MORE

PRACTICAL INSTRUCTION

It doesn't make a lot of sense to tell someone, "You ought to go evangelize," and not give them any tools to do so. Starting conversations, answering questions, and helping people start a relationship with Jesus is, like any other area in life, something a person can become skilled at. It takes commitment and the right kind of teaching.....CLICK TO READ MORE

POSITIVE MOTIVATION

I was once so afraid of sharing the Gospel that I spent part of two days in a row throwing up in a hotel bathroom. No one would have looked at me and said, "That guys has the gift of evangelism." Sixteen years later I have shared the message of Jesus with people across the world.... CLICK TO READ MORE

I was at a pizza and hot wings joint in Henderson, KY. There had been about 12 "just came from church" Christians that had kept the waitress on her toes and smiling for 45 minutes. She had short, jet black hair, a nose ring, multiple tattoos, and big pretty blue eyes. Everyone was gone but my friend, Mark Randall, and myself.

When she came to collect the bill (with a big fat tip) Mark addressed her.

"I've got good news for you."

"Oh, yeah, what's that?"

"Jesus loves you very much and has a great plan for your life."

She nodded her head. "Yeah, I know that and...uhm...well this is like a blessing in disguise. You guys are the third group of people that have been nice to me since yesterday."

Mark asked her, "Is there anything we could pray for you about?"

She looked over her shoulder and got teary-eyed. "Yeah. yeah, there is."

She moved a few steps and closed the door, shutting us off from the other part of the restaurant.

She went on to explain that she had been in "drug jail" for her "needle-using." She had two boys that she hardly gets to see and now that she is out of jail, her drug debts were catching up with her and even though she hadn't used in 3 years, she owed a lot of money. She wanted to re-establish her relationship with her boys but her current situation didn't make it easy.

She cried through the conversation. The last group of "nice people" she had talked to had invited her to church and she was already considering it when she met us. She seemed to think it was a sign and my guess is, she'll attend this Sunday.

She said, "I don't know why I've gone through what I've gone through...I mean, I know I'm responsible...but now I've got a story and I think God wants me to share it."

I noticed she had "Landen" and "Cole" tatooed on her forearms. One on the left, and one on the right.

"Are Landen and Cole your boys?"

She wiped tears and said, "yeah." Then she folded her hands together and held them in front of her face. "I put that there so they'll be right in front of me when I pray."

We prayed with her and she gave us both a hug and thanked us repeatedly. When we got back to the church, we told the pastor about the encounter and gave him a description of the girl, asking him to watch for her next Sunday. I believe she'll be there. If you think about it, please pray for Heather and her two boys, that God will do something exceptional, and that her story will touch many.

It's often amazing the conversations that open up from a kind word and an offer to pray.
